Privacy
Burger One is a food business in Rolleston, New Zealand. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
- Your name, phone number and email address, when you join the list.
- Your delivery address, when you place an order.
- Your member number and what you ordered.
- Whatever you type into the contact form, so we can answer you.
We collect this directly from you. We don't buy lists and we don't track you across other websites.
Why we collect it
To issue your number, to make and deliver your order, and to contact you about that order. Nothing else. We will not send you marketing unless you ask us to.
Who else sees it
Your payment goes directly to your bank — we never see or store your card or bank login details. If you order delivery, the courier gets your name, address and phone number so they can find you. We don't sell your information to anyone, ever.
How long we keep it
Only as long as we need it. Order and payment records are held for seven years because the Inland Revenue Department requires it of every New Zealand business. Everything else — your contact details and member number — we delete on request, or when the 1000-burger run ends and we close.
Where it's stored
Your member number is also saved in your own browser so you don't have to type it every time. Clearing your browser data removes it from your device. That copy is yours, not ours.
Facebook, Instagram and Messenger
If you comment on our Facebook Page or our Instagram account (@burgeronenz), or send us a message on Messenger or Instagram, Meta passes us your public name, what you wrote and when. We use it only to read and answer you. It stays in our private admin for as long as we need it to deal with your question, and no longer than the end of the 1000-burger run.
We don't sell it, use it for advertising or share it with anyone else. A reply may be drafted with help from an AI writing assistant, but a person reads and sends every one. To have it deleted, ask through the contact form or message us “delete my data” on the same channel, and we remove it within 30 days. You can also delete your own comment on Facebook or Instagram at any time.
Your data, your call
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you (principle 6), and to ask us to correct it if it's wrong (principle 7). We must respond within 20 working days. It costs you nothing.
The Act doesn't give a general right to erasure the way European law does — but we'll delete on request anyway. Ask us and we'll remove your contact details and member number. The only thing we can't erase is the order and payment record IRD requires us to keep for seven years.
How to ask
Use the contact form. Pick send me a copy, correct my data or delete my data, and give us the number you were issued. That's all we need.
You can also clear your details from this device right now using the button in the footer of any page.
If we get it wrong
Tell us first, through the contact form. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

The run
Ordering opens on Thursday 1 October 2026. We are making 1000 burgers in total. When the count reaches zero, The One is finished: there is no restock and no second run of it. The counter on the home page reflects burgers sold. We're open Thursday to Sunday from 5pm to 9pm, with the first deliveries from 5:30pm, and we close each night when that day's stock is gone.
Your number
Your number is personal to you and isn't transferable. We may decline an order if a number is being shared or used to buy stock for resale.
Orders and payment
Prices are in New Zealand dollars. We are not registered for GST, so no GST is charged and we cannot issue a GST receipt. Payment is taken when you order. An order is confirmed once payment clears — a placed order is not a guarantee of stock until then.
First order — a drink on us
From time to time we email people on our list who haven't ordered yet, a few at a time. If you get that email:
- One drink on your first order is on us. It is already on your account — order with your number and the email address it was sent to, add a drink, and it comes off at checkout by itself. There is no code.
- It covers up to $3.90, the price of a soft drink. Choose an energy drink and you pay only the difference.
- It is good until the date in the email, for one order, and only once per person.
- It doesn't combine with a discount code. It has no cash value and can't be exchanged or transferred.
- We may change or end the offer at any time. Orders already paid keep what they got.
Changes and refunds
Tell us before we start cooking and we'll cancel and refund in full. Once it's on the grill we can't. If something's wrong with your order, contact us the same day and we'll put it right — this doesn't affect your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
Allergens and special diets
We do not cater for special diets. There is one kitchen, one burger and one bun, cooked to order on shared boards, shared utensils and one grill. We have no gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian or vegan options, and we never describe anything we make as "free from" an allergen.
Our food contains gluten (wheat), dairy, egg, soy, mustard and sesame, and other allergens may be present. Two worth naming: our seasoned salt is made with mustard seed, so mustard is in every patty, and one of our buns is a sesame bun. Because everything shares the same boards, utensils and grill, we cannot guarantee that any item is free of any allergen, including by cross-contact — a burger ordered on the plain bun is still made beside the sesame one.
If you have a food allergy or intolerance, ask us before you order. We will tell you what is in a dish — contact us — and if that answer is not certain enough for you, please don't order. We would rather lose the sale than risk your health.
